The Manifest Word of Life
In this exposition of 1 John 1:1-4 Pastor Joel emphasizes the apostle John's eyewitness testimony of Jesus Christ as the eternal Word of God made flesh. Written near the end of the first century from Ephesus, John combats early Gnostic heresies that denied either Christ's full humanity or divinity. Pastor Joel establishes that salvation depends not only on how we receive it (by grace through faith) but critically on who we believe Jesus to be. John's personal recollections of seeing, hearing, and touching Jesus provide foundational evidence for the incarnation—that the eternal God made Himself accessible to humanity. The purpose of this testimony is twofold: to establish correct doctrine about Christ's nature and to invite believers into fellowship with God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ. This fellowship, broken by sin in Eden, has been restored through Christ and is experienced through Scripture, prayer, and community with other believers. Pastor Joel calls listeners to avail themselves of this fellowship through engaging with God's Word and His people, resulting in complete joy.
