Now Therefore Arise
Pastor Joel opens the book of Joshua by drawing parallels between Joshua's call to lead Israel into the Promised Land and the Christian's call to possess their spiritual inheritance in Christ. Just as Joshua faced the daunting task of succeeding Moses and conquering Canaan, believers today are called to move beyond spiritual survival into spiritual victory. He emphasizes that God's promises remain constant through transitions and that obedience to God's Word is the key to conquering spiritual territory. He challenges the congregation to stop cohabiting with the "Canaanites" of sin and compromise, and instead courageously take hold of the freedom, peace, holiness, and victory already promised in Jesus Christ. Pastor Joel stresses that while God provides the power and promise, believers must provide the agency through faithful obedience—we are called to "cause" ourselves and others to inherit the promise through courage and adherence to Scripture.
