Defiance of Man in Obedience to God

Apr 3, 2024    Pastor Joel Denney

Drawing from Exodus chapter 1, Pastor Joel introduces the book of Exodus as the pinnacle salvation narrative of the Old Testament, foreshadowing the ultimate deliverance brought by the Messiah. He traces the transition from the favor Israel enjoyed under Joseph's Pharaoh to the brutal oppression under a new king who feared Israel's growth. Central to his message is the courageous example of the Hebrew midwives, Shiphrah and Puah, who defied Pharaoh's genocidal command because they feared God above man. Their obedience resulted in God's blessing upon them and continued growth for Israel. Pastor Joel calls believers to examine where their ultimate allegiances lie, challenging them to prioritize obedience to God over the fear of man, even when earthly authority demands otherwise. He affirms the sanctity of every human life, the sovereignty of God over governments and persecution, and the truth that God does His greatest work in and through His people during times of oppression and trial.
